
Thirty years ago I joined my father in his automobile dealership. I began as a "coffee greeter girl." My job was to push a cart up and down the sidewalk and serve coffee and doughnuts to our service customers. I learned a lot about what service was by listening to our customers and people who I worked with as they interacted with each other. Over the next twelve years I worked in all departments of the dealership. I had the opportunity to listen and learn from a number of sources, both inside and outside the dealership environment. I had a lot of time to formulate and build on to the business philosophy of one of Colorado 's premier automobile dealerships.
My family founded the business in 1941 and we have remained at the top of our business throughout those sixty plus years. One of the primary reasons we've stayed on the top is because we always remember that we are "people serving people just like us." We all want and should expect to be treated honestly and with respect. At Ralph Schomp Automotive our integrity is our most important asset. That means keeping our promises and working diligently to do whatever is needed to get the job done or the problem solved.
In the mid 1970's I met Mark Wallace who was the Vice-president of Colorado Imports Motors in Fort Collins , Colorado , now Pedersen Toyota and Volvo. We got married in 1978 and in 1983 while I was pregnant with our first of three children Mark came to work with me. It has been a wonderful partnership.
In 1988 my father died and Mark and I purchased the dealership from my family. Now was the opportunity to begin to move forward as business owners, building on a unique heritage. We drew from our best business advisors and marketing experts...OUR CUSTOMERS...
It took a couple of years to work up the courage to do what we heard our customers asking for because it was so out of character for our industry. We talked and listened to people. We heard doubts, fears of moving out of the "comfort zone." In 1991 we made the move to "ONE PRICE SELLING." Now, we look back and agree that it was and continues to have a resounding vote of approval from our customers.
